Day 8

The second week has begun. On Monday morning I went to school. In general, we do a lot of exam work to prepare exam students for the Cambridge advanced.

In the afternoon I went to St. Giles Cathedral and Scott's Monument. The St. Giles Cathedral is placed in Old town. Through many wars and city fires the Cathedral withstood. The Scotts Monument was built for Scotlands most famous writer Sir Walter Scott. It is the second highest monument built for a writer and is around 61 meters high. The highest stands in Dubai and is around 109 meters high.

Sir Walter Scott was a writer and lived from 1771 to 1832. Perhaps more than any other writer, Scott created a worldwide interest in Scotland's heritage and language. He created a new literary genre of 'historical fiction'. During his lifetime his works were translated into over 30 languages, were read across Europe and achieved international fame. The German writer Goethe praised Scott's first novel 'Waverley' as one of the best things that has 'ever been written in the world'.

In total, there are four stages but only three can be visited. The view from up there was marvellous.
